If you were at our spring fair last Sunday, no doubt you’ve picked up some beautiful new clothes and accessories for your spring wardrobe (we know we did). Now you just need the beauty look to go with it!
Spring is the perfect time for a wardrobe clear out and a fresh new makeover ready for a new start with a new look. Now that we have several new outfits to show off in the sunshine, we turned to a professional to get some beauty tips for a vintage look.
Athena beauty salon on Brick Lane opened at the end of last year and has quickly become one of our favourite hangouts for a classic makeover before a night of swing dancing or a masterclass lesson in how to finally perfect that smoky eye look. We love the upcycled furniture and the Hollywood lightbulbs around the mirrors that make us feel like a goddess while we get pampered.
Owner and beauty aficionado Aleysha is a big fan of a vintage look too so she seemed like the perfect person to give us a few tips to overhaul our look. Here’s her top tips to get the look:
Eyes: Go for a colour in the crease of the eyes. Brown is great for deeper skin tones and grey is fab for paler skin.
For the perfect flick, use a liquid or gel liner. Tip: if you don’t have a steady hand and your flick doesn’t look totally perfect, go over with black eyeshadow to soften the line. Use a wipe to erase bits of the flick to get a great point at the end!
Skin: Use a bronzer under cheekbones, and a highlighter on the cheekbones for a contoured look with a glow. Try Sleek’s contour palette.
Lips: For the perfect pout, take off some lippy on a brush and use that to apply. You’ll have more control and get a great shape without using a liner! For a classic red go for MAC Russian Red. For a more vibrant pout, try Limecrime gloss to matte in Red Velvet.
Hair: For a vintage wave, separate hair in sections to tong. Tong each piece of hair the same way. When it is all curled grab a big brush and bush it all through. Part hair on the side and pin one side back.
